Manchester United favourites to land Tottenham Hotspur defender?
Manchester United are reportedly regarded as favourites to pursue Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the ongoing campaign.
The Belgium international has declined to sign a fresh deal with Spurs beyond the summer of 2020 and this is likely to witness the club cashing in on his services when the transfer window reopens.
According to The Mirror, the north London giants are resigned to losing their leading defender in the summer with United leading the race to pursue his signature.
Alderweireld's contract was renewed earlier in the season by the means of a 12-month extension clause, but that has come at a price with a £26m release clause automatically written into his deal.
Still, the clause only gets active during the final 14 days of the summer transfer window, but it appears that the defender could delay his proposed departure to join the Red Devils in a cut-price move.
Elsewhere, United have received a boost in their bid in keeping hold of Paul Pogba, who is willing to commit his future to the club on a new long-term contract.
